Nisutlin River Campsite Development

Teslin Tlingit Council field staff and Teslin residents have observed a high level of use along the Nisutlin River and the accompanying impacts of that use (displacement of Tlingit families from their family camps, burning of tent poles for firewood, garbage and human waste accumulation) increasing over the years, and TTC has expended significant resources in mitigating these effects. This project established a number of designated and maintained camping sites along the Nisutlin River to concentrate non-local use of campsites along the Nisutlin River with the purpose of minimizing the number of affected areas and to support efficient and effective management of the tourism footprint to promote a healthy ecosystem for the wildlife and land users who rely on the Nisutlin River.
