Reversing Local Extinction Ground Squirrels at Duke Meadows

The projects overall goals are to clarify why populations of Arctic ground squirrels have collapsed in many portions of S.W. Yukon. In support of this, attempts to initiate a new population of squirrels on Kluane First Nations Settlement lands are being carried out during the summer of 2013.

Kluane First Nations chose the trans location sites and first initiated reintroduction efforts in 2009. The founder population will be monitored using radio telemetry in order to accurately gauge, and clarify the reasons for, the projects relative success.
