TH Harvest Monitor

Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in is requesting funding to go towards a TH Harvest Monitor so that harvest data can be collected and can feed into larger fish and wildlife management planning initiatives for fish and wildlife, including large ungulate species such as moose, caribou (Porcupine Caribou Herd and Hart River Herd) and sheep within the TH Traditional Territory. TH Fish and Wildlife branch employed a Harvest Monitor in 2015 for approximately the same number of weeks that has been include in this proposal. This position was extremely helpful to the department and fulfilled the duties and tasks including maintaining and providing records of harvest, distributing important educational materials to the community, relaying important conservation messages, answering questions from citizens and other YFNs, assisting with culture camps and harvesting the Chum salmon that is provided to the community. We hope to secure funding to help ensure that this successful program continues on into the future.
