Poorly skinned pelts reflect not only on the individual trapper but on the public profile of the trapping industry. At present wolf management programs are being implemented in the Yukon, through government reduction programs and YOA incentive programs, so trappers are encouraged to harvest wolves in an effort to help stabilize ungulate populations.
Skinning wolves is a long and complicated process that requires patience and skill; by offering relevant teaching techniques trappers may send superior fur products to market resulting in higher return for trappers, less wastage of harvested wild life resources and a raised profile for the fur industry. It may serve to illustrate the respect and certifiable skills that Yukon trappers possess when dealing with the wildlife harvested.
