Ch’igii: The Adventures of a Porcupine Caribou Calf

This project will engage youth and help them understand basic information about key Yukon species (starting with caribou) and how they live in the North. The idea is to do this in a fun, engaging way that will be interesting to young audiences, but adults as well. By assembling a team of creative artists and filmmakers who are also experience biologists and wildlife managers, the outcome will be a high quality production that is strongly based in both scientific and local/traditional knowledge. Involving the Heritage Committee of Vuntut Gwitch’in First Nation, Porcupine Caribou Management Board and the Old Crow community in the project will ensure traditional knowledge and values are included into the final production. Ongoing review of the production by a group of target youth will also provide constructive feedback. Our goal is to produce a quality production that will set the stage for a series of similar videos on all key Yukon species. These videos will be available online for all users to access.
