Evaluation of Pharmaceuticals at the Whitehorse Sewage Lagoon

This project will identify and evaluate the Whitehorse sewage lagoon as an important wetland for breeding and migratory birds in the southern Yukon. This will involve investigating the biological, chemical and physical components of the lagoon which attracts so many birds.

A second component will evaluate the presence of pharmaceutical, personal care products and hormones at the lagoon and their potential transfer into the terrestrial food chain. Water, sediment and invertebrate samples will be collected and sent to the water quality center for laboratory analysis.
